Capitals vs. Penguins live stream, Game 2: TV schedule, online and more
By Simon Vacca
The Washington Capitals host the Pittsburgh Penguins in Game 2 of their second-round series. Here’s everything you need to know to watch.
On Thursday night, the Pittsburgh Penguins rallied back from a two goal deficit to defeat the Washington Capitals by a final score of 3-2. The game had initially appeared to be one of promise for Barry Trotz’s men, as Evgeny Kuznetsov opened up the scoring just 17 seconds after puck drop, while Alexander Ovechkin found the back of the net early in the third period. But a trio of goals from Patric Hornqvist, Sidney Crosby and Jake Guentzel was the central avenue through which the Penguins snatched victory from the jaws of defeat.
In Game 2, the Capitals shall look to swing the momentum in their favor as they aim to ease the burden of two tough games on the road. The previous matchup was nothing short of a missed opportunity, in that the Penguins were left to compete without superstar center Evgeni Malkin. Washington’s offense is often the focal point of various hockey circles, but its defense will be the real story if they’re serious about winning the series. Crosby is one of the league’s most dynamic players, but Guentzel is quietly making his case for the Calder Trophy, as he leads all playoff performers in both goals and points. As such, the Capitals will have to nail the defensive matchups in order to stop Pittsburgh’s depth-ridden roster.
For the Penguins, Game 2 is a massive opportunity to take command of the series. They managed to steal a win without the presence of Malkin and shall surely aim to usher forth another victory as they prepare to play for fans in Pittsburgh. Scoring outside the top line will be ideal, so expect players like Phil Kessel, Bryan Rust and Zach Aston-Reese to introduce the Capitals to the challenges of matching four dangerous lines. If goaltender Matt Murray manages to have a “lights-out” performance, dreams of a two-game lead can very well be translated into a reality.
