4. Dylan Bundy, Baltimore Orioles
1-2 in 5 starts, 1.42 ERA, 1.11 WHIP, 11.37 K/9
Bundy might be one of the most underrated starters in the league right now. We saw flashes last year but he wasn’t able to string an entire season together. At least through five starts this season, Bundy has been dominating even though he only has one win to show for it. That’s a prime example of why wins for pitchers is not a good way to measure value. Bundy has pitched far above his record and deserves better.
His slider is the difference maker in his pitch mix. The fastball is fine with decent velocity but he’s only good pitcher when the slider is working well. It’s pure evil when he can throw it effectively.
Dylan Bundy, Filthy 83 mph Slider. 🤢 https://t.co/3lRoVBTbPg

Bundy is throwing it a little more often this season, up about four and a half percent from the 2017 season. That’s helped Bundy allow fewer fly balls and less hard contact. It hasn’t been a situation where Bundy has been smoking weak lineups either. He’s faced the Astros and he Red Sox on the road in two of his five starts. Combined, he pitched 11.2 innings and struck out 14 batters while walking just four. he gave up a grand total of two runs in this two starts. The Orioles might not be a good team in 2018. They’re currently in the basement in the A.L. East. That shouldn’t stop the public from realizing that they have an ace on the hill every fifth day.
