The Los Angeles Chargers pulled off one of the biggest heists in the first round of the 2018 NFL Draft, getting defensive back Derwin James all the way at No. 17 overall. James was considered by many as the best defensive back in this draft class, as his versatility was only rivaled by Minkah Fitzpatrick from Alabama. Well, he fell into the Chargers lap, giving them the kind of safety they have not had since Eric Weddle was patrolling the middle of their defense.

Fast forward to the regular season, and the Chargers have the weapons they need to be the best team in the AFC West in 2018. However, their quarterback is starting to get up there in age, and they are going to have to address that eventually. If they pick later in round one in 2019, they could add a signal-caller to the roster, and Jarrett Stidham from Auburn is a very good NFL prospect.

Los Angeles is in win-now mode, but if they brought in a guy like Stidham, he could learn work ethic from one of the best in the game. The Chargers currently had Cardale Jones and Geno Smith backing up Rivers, so that is definitely not the long-term plan. Stidham makes a lot of sense, especially if the Chargers have the kind of year they are expected to and are picking late in round one.
