One of baseball’s best young talents received some of the worst news on Monday as he will have Tommy John surgery

The Los Angeles Dodgers have once again found themselves plagued by the injury bug. As some of the team’s biggest stars — such as Yasiel Puig and Justin Turner — continue to battle injuries, another Los Angeles star has found himself sidelined for an extensive period of time. Star shortstop Corey Seager is set to miss the remainder of the year with a UCL injury.

When Seager’s name didn’t appear on Monday’s lineup card, questions began to arise as to why. Many speculated a short DL stint was forthcoming. However, few expected the shocking news which broke Monday evening. Seager, who is hitting .267 with two homers, will have Tommy John surgery soon.

Seager’s injury comes just days after Yasiel Puig found his name on the DL. Puig is suffering from a hip contusion and bruised foot. Despite Seager and Puig’s injuries, the Dodgers have received some good news recently. Justin Turner is finally hitting off a tee again as he progresses down the lengthy road to a return. It’s an uphill battle from here for the Dodgers to return to the World Series, but never doubt the boys in blue.

Chris Taylor took Seager’s place on Monday’s lineup card. Taylor (.233 avg., 4 HR) is capable of playing both infield and outfield for the Dodgers. There is no way to easily replace a star the caliber of Seager, so some shuffling will be done. However, Taylor is looking like the easiest solution to a complicated problem. Things have not come easy to Los Angeles this season with Seager’s injury providing another roadblock. The Dodgers currently sit fourth in the NL West at 12-15 overall, seven games back of the Diamondbacks.
