St. Louis: David Backes

Longtime St. Louis Blues player (and current Boston Bruin) David Backes has a respectable playoff beard. It is not the worst, it is not the best. It is respectable. It’s also relatable in a way that it most likely resembles your own playoff beard.

The 12-year NHL veteran has had a number of playoff runs through his career, giving ample time for all of us to get to know his scruffy, somewhat patchy playoff beard. It was at its best in the St. Louis Blues’ 2015-16 playoff run in which he captained the team to the Western Conference Final, where they lost to the San Jose Sharks in six games. David Backes has seven goals and seven assists in 20 games that post season.

Backes was great as the captain of the Blues team, collecting 460 points in 727 games in a Blues uniform.

Backes will continue to grow his playoff beard in Boston, as the Bruins are in their second playoff push with him in the lineup, already playing longer than they did in Backes’ first season with the Bruins in 2016-17 in which they lost in six games to the Ottawa Senators.

Look for Backes to continue growing out his wicked playoff beard with the Bruins, likely to its full Stanley Cup potential at some point over his five-year deal with the B’s.
