Catcher/First Base, High End Spend

Joey Votto, $4,100

.333/.400/.722 with 2 HR in 18 at-bats

The first baseman for the reds is one of the best hitters this generation has seen and it’s funny how some people were raising eyebrows about his slow start. Votto typically takes about month to get his timing down but when he does, he’s locked in. He’s been on base in every game since April 14 and now he gets to face Jhoulys Chacin who gets wrecked by lefty hitters. He’s giving up an average of .333 and a wOBA of .417. Votto has smashed righty pitching his entire career and has a relatively safe floor with his insane on-base skills every night but we could get a monster game tonight.

Also Consider – Anthony Rizzo, $3,800(the wind could be blowing out in Chicago which is fun for fantasy potential)

Mid-Range

Willson Contreras, $3,200

.000/.333/.000 with 0 HR in 2 at-bats

This is a pick that could change during the day depending on the Rockies pitching situation. Kyle Freeland is a lefty and is supposed to start but might be skipped due to a foot injury. If Freeland pitches and the wind is blowing out at Wrigley, Contreras is borderline a lock. He hits lefties far better than righties during his career with a .295 average, .893 OPS and a .379 wOBA. Freeland is nothing special on the mound and the price is way too cheap for the potential Contreras brings to the dish tonight. If Freeland is skipped, Contreras is a bit less appealing due to the handedness of the pitcher. We’ll have to monitor this situation through the day.

Also Consider – Jesus Aguilar, $2,800 and Brad Miller, $2,700

Value

Manny Pina, $2,200

N/A

The Brewers are facing lefty Brandon Finnegan today and until he proves that he can pitch effectively, you have to be interested in hitters against him. Righties are tuning him up in his action so far this season, so Pina is interesting at near minimum pricing. He has career marks of a .268 batting average and a .325 wOBA against southpaws and Finnegan is giving up a .371 wOBA over 50 righties faced so far in 2018. Finnegan does posses a low hard contact rate, which could suggest he’s been a little unlucky so far. I might not go all out with Brewers but it’s well worth it to play one or two tonight.

Also Consider – Alex Avila, $2,400
