Number 24: Detroit Tigers
After a solid four year run from 2011-2014, it looks like the Tigers will miss the playoffs for the fourth year in a row. One of the main concerns with the roster is their age, yet it’s also one of the reasons it’s worthwhile to tune in.
Even at a ripe old age of 35, Miguel Cabrera is appointment television. He’s a lifetime .317 hitter with 464 bombs to date. He’s a first ballot hall of famer and one of the best right-handed hitters of the past 25 years.
Then there’s Victor Martinez who is 39 years old and still doing the darn thing. He’s two years removed from a 27 home run and 86 rbi season and four years removed from an All-Star season. his better days are behind him but he and Miggy are icons that you want to check out before we lose them forever.
Then in the rotation, you get your filling of youth. Michael Fulmer, 25, is a quality starting pitcher who the Tigers acquired from the Mets in the Yoenis Cespedes trade.
Fulmer, was an All-Star last year and has a career ERA of 3.45. He took home the American League rookie of the year in 2016. Fulmer’s an ace in the making and someone you build around long-term.
The Tigers won’t be very good in 2018, but they give you some small pieces that are worth giving an eye to. They’re also top-10 in the league in batting average and top-15 in runs so at the very least they give you some offense.
