2B. Minnesota Twins. Brian Dozier. 4. player. 2.

The Twins are only 3.5 games back of the division lead, but that’s fool’s gold. The more accurate representation of their ball club is their 9-14 record. That’s why they should consider dealing Brian Dozier while the iron is hot.

Dozier has unquestionably been one of the best power-hitting infielders in baseball over the last several years. His 76 homers in the last two years make him a very attractive option for teams that want to add some pop to the middle of their lineup. The ability to get such production from second base only makes acquiring Dozier more attractive.

There have been rumblings that Dozier might be willing to re-sign with the Twins after this season, but the club should move on from him before he gets the chance. At 32, he just doesn’t fit into the timeline of when Minnesota will really be ready to contend again.

Dozier’s slow start to this season could also be the beginning of his decline. He’s only hitting .260 at the moment with a weak .OBS of .333. It could just be a small sample size, but it could also be his bat starting to slow down. The Twins shouldn’t wait around to find out. Dealing him soon gives them the chance to secure a high-quality prospect for their future.
