1. Los Angeles Dodgers

After losing Corey Seager for the rest of the year to Tommy John, the Los Angeles Dodgers have jumped to the top of the list of teams that should be getting ready to blow the Orioles away with a trade offer for Manny Machado. Losing Seager is a devastating blow for the Dodgers, who were already off to a slow start at the plate. Utilitymen Chris Taylor and Enrique Hernandez will attempt to hold down the position until reinforcements arrive.

The Dodgers are already a half-dozen games behind the Diamondbacks, but it’s not time to make a panic-driven trade to get Seager’s replacement immediately. Their run differential is still positive and the rotation has benefited from having a healthy Hyun-Jin Ryu and an electric debut from top prospect Walker Buehler.

Hitting also hasn’t been an issue for the Dodgers, as they rank fourth in the NL in runs and OPS. Relievers have already taken five of the team’s first 15 losses and All-Star closer Kenley Jansen sports an ERA approaching 6.00 and has allowed over a hit an inning. The Dodgers do have problems, but paying through the nose for Machado in May isn’t the answer.

There’s a chance the Dodgers can get enough from Taylor and Hernandez at shortstop, but the National League is loaded. Eventually, they will need a better answer, and that’s where Machado and the Orioles will wait. The injury to Seager is a blessing for the Orioles, as it ensures there will be at least one team at the deadline desperate to acquire a shortstop.
