The Pittsburgh Penguins host the Washington Capitals in Game 3 of their second-round series. Here’s everything you need to know to watch.

On Sunday, the Washington Capitals defeated the Pittsburgh Penguins by a final score of 4-1 in Game 2 of their second-round series.

The matchup was one of redemption, as strong performances from Lars Eller, Nicklas Backstrom, Alexander Ovechkin, Jakub Vrana and Braden Holtby were the central avenues through which the Capitals managed to tie up the series. The Penguins thought that they had caught a break in the third period, when Patric Hornqvist celebrated what he perceived to be a goal after jamming a loose puck into Holtby’s pad.

The NHL, however, could not conclusively determine that the puck had crossed over the goal-line. As such, the league’s situation room ruled in favor of a no-goal and the Capitals went on to emerge victorious.

Whether the Penguins were robbed of an opportunity to inch closer to tying the game is secondary to the fact that the Capitals ushered forth a commanding victory. Game 3, therefore, will serve as a chance for Pittsburgh to reclaim its lead in the series. The Capitals did a good job of keeping Sidney Crosby off the score sheet, so expect the Penguins’ captain to come out flying. If Evgeni Malkin is, in fact, close to returning, the Penguins might just have everything they need to overwhelm their opponent on home ice.

For Washington, the next two matchups are among the toughest of their 2017-18 campaign. An away victory in the playoffs is never easy, but nevertheless serves as a staple of their quest for Lord Stanley’s trophy. In theory, a steal on the road would only require the Capitals to win their home games, but expect them to put everything into each of the upcoming contests. Look for Barry Trotz’s men to match Pittsburgh’s depth-ridden roster as they aim to escape from the jaws of defeat.
