Carson Wentz has good news for Eagles fans

Carson Wentz wants to change his game a little, which should make Eagles fans happy.

Philadelphia Eagles fans can’t wait to see Carson Wentz back on the field for their favorite team. When he comes back, he’s looking to adjust his game slightly. That news should be music to the ears of Eagles fans.

Wentz isn’t going to change a lot of things about the way he plays the game, but he has promised coaches he’ll try to be a little more careful out there. That should help him avoid the sort of injury that cut his 2017 season short.

Per the talented quarterback, he and the Eagles coaching staff are all “on the same page.” That means Wentz will be taking less chances next season that he did in his first two seasons. He promises to still be the same aggressive quarterback that he’s always been, but he insists he’s taking the idea of preserving his health “seriously.”

This isn’t an unexpected development from Wentz, but it is a sign of increased maturity. The pain of missing out on a magical Super Bowl run has to gnaw at him. That’s not to say he wasn’t happy to see Nick Foles fill in so ably. It’s just a simple observation that Wentz definitely wishes he would have been the quarterback on the field as the Eagles clinched their Super Bowl victory.

Wentz and the organization can’t afford to look backwards though. Instead, all of their attention must be focused on the future. Things change quickly in the NFL, and if the Eagles and Wentz stop to rest on their laurels, they will be overrun by the competition.

The real challenge for Eagles officials in the near term will be stopping Wentz from trying to come back too soon. He and the team would love to see him ready for Week 1 against the Falcons but they can’t become too focused on that idea. Foles has proven he can carry the team for several weeks at a time. That means Philadelphia must make sure Wentz is 100 percent healthy before he returns to action.

Even if Eagles fans don’t see Wentz against Atlanta, they have every reason to be encouraged about his physical and mental progression. Fans may be more worried about his knee, but the advances in his mental approach to the game may be more important for his career.
