Main Slate – Phillies at Marlins

Phillies Probable Starter – Aaron Nola, RHP

2.58 ERA, 0.97 WHIP 6.57 K/9

Vs LHH – .225 average, .263 wOBA  15.3 hard contact rate

Vs RHH – .161 average, .213 wOBA  25.0 hard contact rate

It’s strange to see Nola take a large step forward this year while striking out fewer batters but here we are. He’s in a great spot to rack up some strikeouts tonight against the Miami offense that is fifth in strikeout rate against righties. Nola has just been dominant throughout the season but there is concern about him going deep into the game. Manager Gabe Kapler has seemingly loosened the leash a little bit as Nola has gone seven his past two starts. He’s not a bad play tonight but I’m not totally sure I’m going there either. He’s just priced in an odd range where I’d rather go higher or lower. The Marlins can sometimes be a little pesky as well. Ask Nola’s teammate, Jake Arrieta.

Marlins Hitters to Target

Elite Options – None

Secondary Options – Justin Bour

Marlins Probable Starter – Jose Urena

4.91 ERA, 1.30 WHIP  7.09 K/9

Vs LHH – .281 average, .350 wOBA  49.0 hard contact rate

Vs RHH – .238 average, .293 wOBA  38.0 hard contact rate

People are likely going to see “Jose Urena” and be ready to roll all the Phillies out against him. I would be a bit more cautious than that but there are definitely bats that interest me. This game being in Miami kind of takes a lot of fun out of things because the park is so pitcher friendly. If you wanted to be contrarian, an argument could be made to use Urena in GPP’s. He’s almost certainly going to be low owned and the Phillies aren’t nearly as good on offense as the perception is. They also strikeout against righties at the second highest rate in the majors. It’s not the best option but sometimes going against the grain pays off.
