Main Slate – Braves at Mets

Braves Probable Starter – Sean Newcomb, LHP

4.23 ERA, 1.48 WHIP 11.06 K/9

Vs LHH – .296 average, .335 wOBA  31.2 hard contact rate

Vs RHH – .274 average, .320 wOBA  28.1 hard contact rate

If you happened to read yesterday, we had interest in Newcomb and then he was pushed back a day for an extra day of rest. Rookie Mike Soroka made a spot start and now we can go right back to Newcomb as a GPP option. Is he safe? No, and he’s probably not going to be at any other time this year. This is a great spot for him even though it’s n the road because the Mets have been putrid against lefties all season. Newcomb can sometimes be his own worst enemy with a high walk rate of 4.55 BB/9 but when you can strike players out the way he does, it tends to even out.  The Braves have an exciting young squad and Newcomb is a big part of that. He’s got a really wide range of outcomes tonight but the strikeout upside keeps him in play.

Mets Hitters to Target

Elite Options – Wilmer Flores

Secondary Options – Yoenis Cespedes, Michael Conforto

Mets Probable Starter – Jacob DeGrom, RHP

2.06 ERA, 1.04 WHIP 10.98 K/9

Vs LHH – .186 average, .253 wOBA 26.2 hard contact rate

Vs RHH – .228 average, .242 wOBA  22.6 hard contact rate

This is one of the few times that I just won’t really consider DeGrom. He’s a dynamite pitcher and could go out and destroy any lineup in front of him. However, this Braves offense is pretty good against righties. They’re second in average, fifth in OPS, 14th in ISO and fifth in wOBA. That’s just not a situation that I want to target. Atlanta got to Noah Syndergaard last night and all of those ranks came without Ronald Acuna. The young gun has been everything people thought he could be in his very short sample size. This spot is dangerous for DeGrom and he’s just too expensive in my eyes.

Braves Hitters to Target

Secondary Options – Ronald Acuna, Dansby Swanson

Home Run Pick – Ronald Acuna
