The Pittsburgh Penguins host the Washington Capitals in Game 4 of their second-round series. Here’s everything you need to know to watch.
On Tuesday, the Washington Capitals defeated the Pittsburgh Penguins by a final score of 4-3 in Game 3 of their second-round series. The matchup highlighted the offensive strength of each respective team, in that both recorded 22 shots over the course of the game. It was Alexander Ovechkin’s ability to follow his own rebound, however, that swung the series in the Capitals’ favor, as the 32-year-old’s goal with 1:07 remaining earned Washington a massive victory.
For the Capitals, Game 4 is a tremendous opportunity to push the Penguins toward the point of no return. A second win on the road would provide the organization with a wave of momentum prior to a dramatic showdown on home ice. The team’s stars have been nothing short of excellent thus far, so expect Ovechkin, Nicklas Backstrom, John Carlson and T.J. Oshie to log tough minutes in their quest to translate dreams of a victory over Pittsburgh into a reality.
For the Penguins, Thursday’s matchup is a must-win game. They’ll have to rally without Zach Aston-Reese, who suffered from both a broken jaw and a concussion after taking a hit from the Capitals’ Tom Wilson. Look for a debate about the league’s lack of consistency regarding player safety policies to arise — as well as a statement game from the Penguins. Although the team’s top line has been incredible, Pittsburgh’s depth is due for a breakout performance. Expect Phil Kessel, Evgeni Malkin, Derick Brassard, Conor Sheary and Bryan Rust to aim to chime in on the scoring.
