“The Tipoff” NBA 2k League tournament was in its second night on Wednesday, May 2, and the result looked similar to what’s recently been happening on the physical hardwood in the NBA playoffs.
Fans of the Golden State Warriors are excited about their team being two wins away from another NBA Western Conference finals series, and fans of Warriors Gaming should be equally excited about Warriors Gaming’s first showing in the NBA 2k League.
“The Tipoff,” a tournament to open play on the inaugural season of the NBA 2k League, went into its second night of group play on Wednesday, May 2. Four of the remaining 13 teams who had not yet taken the virtual hardwood made their maiden voyages looking to nab one of two spots in the single-elimination tournament scheduled for Saturday.
After Group A treated fans to five very competitive games on the first night of the tournament, Group B set out to complete their part of the bracket in similar fashion.
The first contest of the night featured Jazz Gaming and Wizards District Gaming, and Jinsanity made his presence felt early on as Wizards District looked to defend its home court.

Jazz Gaming would use that as momentum through the second half, ending the game on an 18-8 run and claiming their first-ever victory by a score of 68-65. The 10 players for Knicks Gaming and Warriors Gaming would take over the stage, looking to join Jazz Gaming in the win column.

Though Warriors Gaming made runs throughout the game, they were never able to get over the hump and Knicks Gaming moved to 1-0 in Group B with the 72-67 victory. Warriors Gaming would get a quick shot at redemption, however, as they stayed on the stage to face Jazz Gaming.

Wizards District would outlast Knicks Gaming in OT, avoiding an 0-2 start with an 81-76 win. All four teams sat at 1-1 after their first two games, making the third games of the night for all teams true win or go home scenarios. The first two teams to take the stage with that pressure were Jazz Gaming and Knicks Gaming.

With the 64-59 win, Jazz Gaming guaranteed themselves a spot on Saturday. Still to be decided was who would get the $5,000 bonus for winning the pool, however. As Warriors Gaming defeated Jazz Gaming earlier in the night, a win would secure not only a spot on Saturday but that bonus as well for themselves. Warriors Gaming faced Wizards District Gaming for the night’s final game tasting both of those elements.
