5 bold Premier League predictions: Brighton beat Manchester United
Matchweek 37 of the Premier League is almost upon us. Here are five bold predictions for the weekend’s action.
Premier League matchweek 37 begins with Manchester United traveling to face Brighton on Friday night, before Stoke host Crystal Palace in a key relegation match. On Sunday, Manchester City host Huddersfield, Arsenal welcome Burnley to the Emirates and Liverpool head to Stamford Bridge hoping to clinch a spot in the top four. Here are five bold predictions for all the action.
1. Brighton beat Manchester United
The Premier League weekend kicks off on Friday night when Manchester United face a difficult trip to Brighton. The Seagulls have had a relatively strong first season in the Premier League but they’re still at risk of relegation, which should make this a tough match for Jose Mourinho’s men.
United are on course to finish second, a reasonable achievement considering where the club were only a few years ago. However, it’s probably still not good enough for Mourinho, who will almost certainly be aiming to win the league next year.
A win for the Red Devils would cement their second-place finish, but Brighton showed against Tottenham that winning at the Amex is not an easy task. A point would take Chris Hughton’s side further away from the drop but a win would just about guarantee their safety.
Brighton have thrived on strong defensive performances this season and they’ll need to be at their best on Friday night. United have started to look more clinical as the season has gone on — best demonstrated by their last-minute victory over Arsenal last weekend.
The start to this game will be crucial. If Brighton can keep United out for the first 30 minutes then they’ll fancy their chances of taking something from the match. Keeping the Red Devils out will be tough, though, so they’ll probably need to score twice.
Expect a strong performance from Brighton as they take a big step to maintaining their Premier League status with a 2-1 victory on Friday night.
