With three games remaining, Brighton are closing in a spot in the Premier League next season. The Seagulls are five points ahead of Southampton entering their game Friday against Manchester United. The Red Devils are second in the Premier League and have clinched a Champions League spot next season.
Brighton need at least one win if they are going to remain in the Premier League. The Seagulls close the season with games against United, Manchester City and Liverpool. Given their schedule, Brighton might hope that Southampton stumble in their remaining games. While the Seagulls have scored the fourth fewest goals this season, they have been better than expected defensively. Only seven teams have allowed fewer goals. If the Seagulls are going to steal a win from United, they need their front two of Glenn Murray and Pascal Gross to find the back of the net. The duo combined for 18 goals and eight assists this season.
Marouane Fellaini scored in the 91st minute to help United defeat Arsenal 2-1 last weekend. Manchester United have won seven of their previous eight games, moving five points ahead of Liverpool. United can clinch second place with a win on Friday. Romelu Lukaku is sixth in the Premier League with 16 goals. However, that total is somewhat disappointing, given that Lukaku scored 25 times for Everton last year. Alexis Sanchez has struggled in his half season with United. The Chilean winger has scored only two goals in 10 since moving to Manchester. United need Sanchez to play better to justify the price they paid to get him.
