Welcome into the Sunday edition of the FanDuel MLB daily fantasy column! We have an eight game slate on tap for this afternoon so let’s get after it.

We fell short last night in large part to our Braves stack not doing enough. I did mention it was a little risky but I felt like Ty Blach was going to struggle in that matchup. Eduardo Rodriguez still did enough for us with 33 points but the offense was very quiet. Those things can happen from night to night and it was a quiet night across the industry. The cut lines were only around 105 points. Let’s get into today’s slate and get back to winning.

Cleveland Indians at New York Yankees

Indians Probable Pitcher – Mike Clevinger, RHP

2.82 ERA, 1.15 WHIP and 6.81 K/9

Vs LHH – .231 average, .287 wOBA and 21.6 hard contact rate

Vs RHH – .244 average, .285 wOBA and 28.6 hard contact rate

This is an interesting matchup for Clevinger. He’s a very good pitcher but facing the Yankee lineup isn’t any type of walk in the park. The ceiling feels fairly low since his strikeout rate is so much lower than normal. His career mark is 9.31 K/9 and if he’s not striking people out, there’s not much reason to play him. Any of the usual suspects are in play for the Yankees but I’ll likely not be too heavy on them. Clevinger is a good enough pitcher that there’s a chance he can hold the Yankees down.

Yankee Hitters to Target

Elite Options – None

Secondary Options – Aaron Judge, Giancarlo Stanton, Gary Sanchez

Yankees Probable Starter – Domingo German, RHP

3.77 ERA, 1.47 WHIP and 11.50 K/9

Vs LHH – .280 average, .341 wOBA and 25.0 hard contact rate

Vs RHH – .226 average, .300 wOBA and 44.0 hard contact rate

All the numbers for German need to be taken with a grain of salt. First, he’s only got 28.2 innings under his belt. Second, this will be his first career start at the MLB level. You never really know what you’re going to get in that scenario so an Indians stack makes sense in tournaments in case it goes badly for German. The Yankees do have a good bullpen even if German gets blown up so we’ll likely keep the exposure to Indians at a reasonable level today. The Cleveland lefties are likely a little bit of a better play than anything.

Indians Hitters to Target

Elite Options – Yonder Alonso, Jose Ramirez, Michael Brantley, Francisco Lindor

Secondary Options – Bradley Zimmer

Home Run Pick – Michael Brantley

CLEVELAND, OH – MAY 3: Yangervis Solarte #26 of the Toronto Blue Jays hits a grand slam during the eleventh inning off Tyler Olson #49 of the Cleveland Indians at Progressive Field on May 3, 2018 in Cleveland, Ohio. Blue Jays at Rays

Blue Jays Probable Starter – Marco Estrada, RHP

6.19 ERA, 1.47 WHIP and 7.31 K/9

Vs LHH – .285 average, .385 wOBA and 29.2 hard contact rate

Vs RHH – .319 average, .422 wOBA and 35.7 hard contact rate

The Rays are in a pretty positive spot tonight even though they’re at Tropicana Field. Estrada is giving up nearly 60 percent flay ball rate to righty hitters as well and the Rays have righties with power. Estrada is 34 years old and could be seeing a decline in his game. Until he proves otherwise, there’s every reason to attack him. C.J. Cron has terrible splits against right handed pitching so be wary of him even though his price is great. He might be more of a tournament play than anything else. Wilson Ramos hits righties much better and is cheaper than Cron.

Rays Hitters to Target

Elite Options – Wilson Ramos, Daniel Robertson, Matt Duffy, Mallex Smith

Secondary Options – C.J. Cron, Carlos Gomez

Rays Probable Starter – Chris Archer, RHP

6.05 ERA, 1.53 WHIP and 9.78 K/9

Vs LHH – .350 average, .434 wOBA and 37.9 hard contact rate

Vs RHH – .244 average, .290 wOBA and 44.0 hard contact rate

I might be willing to take a gamble on Archer if I was getting any sort of discount but at almost $9,000 I think I’m going to pass. He’s been a mess this year, with only two quality starts in seven starts. Archer has given up at least two earned runs every time out and has only struck out more than seven batters twice. Lefties are the bane of his existence so far in 2018 and the Jays have some decent power bats. They rank first in ISO against righty pitching this season. I don’t really even want Archer as a GPP option today.

Blue Jays Hitters to Target

Elite Options – Yangervis Solarte, Josh Donaldson

Secondary Options – Teoscar Hernandez, Aledmys Diaz, Kendrys Morales

Home Run Pick – Wilson Ramos and Yangervis Solarte
