The Tampa Bay Lightning host the Boston Bruins in Game 5 of their second-round series. Here’s everything you need to know to watch.
On Friday, the Tampa Bay Lightning defeated the Boston Bruins by a final score of 4-3 in Game 4 of their second-round series. The victory was a statement from the Bolts, whose top line of Nikita Kucherov, Steven Stamkos and J.T. Miller managed to match the Bruins’ deadly combination of David Pastrnak, Patrice Bergeron and Brad Marchand in both the offensive and defensive ends. It was Dan Girardi’s overtime goal, however, that allowed Tampa to snatch victory from the jaws of defeat and take a commanding 3-1 lead of the series.
For Boston, Game 5 is do-or-die time. The task at hand is difficult, as the Bruins will be without one of their top playoff performers, Torey Krug, who left Game 4 with a gruesome ankle injury. Pastrnak, Bergeron and Marchand have been absolutely incredible in this series, but a victory can only come if the team’s depth ushers forth a performance for the ages. As a result, look for Jake DeBrusk, Ryan Donato, Rick Nash and David Backes to aim to match Tampa’s scoring.
For the Lightning, Game 5 is an opportunity to conclude the second round on a very commanding note. The fact that their top line has started to chime in on the scoring shows that the team’s two-way game is finally in full force. Expect the Bolts’ deep roster to attempt to bury their division rivals before fans at Amalie Arena.
