FanDuel Lineup and Picks for Tuesday, May 8
Angels at Rockies
Angels Probable Starter – Andrew Heaney, LHP
5.31 ERA, 1.38 WHIP and 10.62 K/9
Vs LHH – .385 average, .369 wOBA and 20.0 hard contact rate
Vs RHH – .261 average, .334 wOBA and 37.5 hard contact rate
One of the biggest choices on this large slate is wether you want to spend up to Kluber or if you want to try and load up on this game. I want nothing to do with Heaney in Coors Field, and you shouldn’t either. He hasn’t shown the consistency to be a quality pitcher yet without having to deal with Coors. The Rockies bats are obviously expensive and Nolan Arenado is the number one hitter on the slate if we’re just talking about raw production potential. His career numbers at home against leftie are .363 average, 1.148 OPS, .355 ISO and .473 wOBA. Heaney’s splits against lefties aren’t very large and I want the righty bats from Colorado, if I can afford them.
Rockies Hitters to Target
Elite Options – Nolan Areando, Trevor Story, Charlie Blackmon, Chris Iannetta
Secondary Options – David Dahl, Ian Desmond
Rockies Probable Starter – Jon Gray, RHP
4.99 ERA, 1.31 WHIP and 9.30 K/9
Vs LHH – .250 average, .332 wOBA and 39.1 hard contact rate
Vs RHH – .290 average, .327 wOBA and 23.1 hard contact rate
This is a tough call because in 2017, Jon Gray was far better in Coors Field. This year hasn’t been the same for him and righty hitter have worked him over at home. If that trend continues, he could be in trouble because the Angels are loaded with righty bats. I may not have the longest track record on FanDuel but I can’t remember a batter being $5,900 at any point. That’s the price tag on Mike Trout and that’s going to be tough to stomach, regardless of how great he is. The story with this game is there’s a ton of elite hitters but finding salary for them is going to be very difficult.
Angels Hitters to Target
Elite Options – Mike Trout, Justin Upton, Ian Kinsler, Shohei Ohtani
Secondary Options – Albert Pujols, Zack Cozart
Home Run Pick – Everyone. Seriously though, I’ll go Ohtani and Arenado
Astros at A’s
Astros Probable Starter – Lance McCullers, RHP
3.73 ERA, 1.20 WHIP, 10.76 K/9
Vs LHH – .194 average, .292 wOBA and 34.8 hard contact rate
Vs RHH – .256 average, .297 wOBA and 29.1 hard contact rate
Since his debacle in Minnesota, McCullers has righted the ship and been pretty dominating. He’s pitched 27 innings, struck out 26 batters and given up just five earned runs, three of which came against the Yankees. I said earlier that James Paxton was one of my favorite Kluber pivot options but McCullers might be my absolute favorite. He faced this A’s squad just a couple of weeks ago and was awesome, pitching seven innings and striking out seven while not allowing a run. Oakland does have some power and are a good offense but they also strike out almost 25 percent of the time against righty pitching.
A’s Hitters to Target
Elite Options – None
Secondary Options – Khris Davis, Jed Lowrie
A’s Probable Starter – Sean Manaea, LHP
1.63 ERA, 0.66 WHIP and 7.61 K/9
Vs LHH – .184 average, .233 wOBA and 14.3 hard contact rate
Vs RHH – .137 average, .190 wOBA and 40.6 hard contact rate
One of theses days, the wheels will fall of for Manaea in a start and whoever stacks against him is going to win a lot of money. The young hurler for the A’s has been dominant so far this year but many metrics suggest he’s closer to a 3.50 ERA pitcher than his current 1.63. The regression monster is coming for him. You don’t give up hard contact 40 percent of the time and only surrender a .137 average. Houston went nuts last night and they’re a great stacking option again in GPP’s this evening.
Astros Hitters to Target
Elite Options – Jose Altuve, Carlos Correa, George Springer
Secondary Options – Alex Bregman, Yuli Gurriel
Home Run Pick – Jose Altuve
