Two Harry Potter and the Cursed Child performers have been nominated for the 74th World Theater Awards, and they deserve it.

Harry Potter and the Cursed Child has received criticism from fans since its release.

However, little of that criticism has stemmed from the actual play itself, which has received seemingly nothing but accolades for the phenomenal performances — so much so that two of the performers are nominated for the World Theater Awards.

Anthony Boyle, who plays Scorpius Malfoy, and Noma Dumezweni, who plays Hermione Granger, have both been chosen to be among the six actors and six actresses honored.

For all its criticism, the Cursed Child isn’t all bad.

As far as I’m concerned, canon Harry Potter content is canon Harry Potter content.

Sure, it’s weird, predictable and not the best. I mean, you can’t end a book series with 10 years later and a happy ending and then be like “oh, yeah, Harry’s a trash dad and everybody’s life is bad” and expect there to be no pushback.

But the Cursed Child did something I never thought any piece of actual Harry Potter canon could do, and that was make Snape likable.

Yes, Severus “I like to bully children because my heart hurts and I was bullied too” Snape was likable in the Cursed Child. He even had a sense of humor in a few of the passages, and I am slightly glad we got to see a side of him that wasn’t completely awful.

Throw in Hermione being the new Dumbledore, and maybe the Cursed Child isn’t so bad after all.

For all its criticisms, I did like the Cursed Child, but I am very thankful that we have the Fantastic Beasts franchise on the big screen rather than this.
