6 steps David Fizdale can take to revitalize the New York Knicks
The Knicks need a lot of help. Here’s how David Fizdale can start offering it up.
David Fizdale is happy to be an NBA head coach again, but he is inheriting a really difficult job with the New York Knicks. The lack of surefire young talent on the roster coupled with the expectations to immediately compete for the Eastern Conference playoffs will give the new coach a serious challenge.
That doesn’t mean the job is hopeless. The presence of Kristaps Porzingis on the roster gives the Knicks some serious upside. They still don’t know exactly when their talented big man will return from his knee injury, but when he does he’ll give Fizdale a foundational piece to build around. He’s just the sort of perimeter-oriented big man who Fizdale tried to make Marc Gasol become in Memphis.
After Porzingis, the roster becomes much less attractive pretty quickly. Frank Ntilikina was the team’s first round selection last season and has shown flashes of excellent play. He isn’t ever going to become an offensive star in the NBA, but his defensive prowess can more than make up for his lack of scoring if he’s surrounded by the right talent.
Mainly Fizdale’s focus during his first year with the Knicks should be on player development and defining clear roles for everyone on the roster. Read on to discover six moves Fizdale can make to provide the Knicks with an immediate boost.
