Welcome into the Thursday edition of the FanDuel daily fantasy MLB column! We have a nine game slate with some ugly pitching options tonight.

Some nights aren’t going to go our way and last night was just one of those nights. While Patrick Corbin was fine, he wasn’t enough to save our putrid offense. Lucas Duda was the only player other than Jonathan Schoop that landed in double digits. You won’t win too many nights with that kind of performance. Let’s move onto to more positive things, like tonight’s nine game slate.

Red Sox at Yankees

Red Sox Probable Pitcher – Eduardo Rodriguez, LHP

5.29 ERA, 1.27 WHIP and 10.86 K/9

Vs LHH – .136 average, .301 wOBA and 42.9 hard contact rate

Vs RHH – .245 average, .317 wOBA and 29.1 hard contact rate

Rodriguez is a pitcher I’ve used frequently this season because his price is usually very reasonable and his flaw can be out-weighed by his strikeout upside. That will certainly not be the case tonight in Yankee Stadium. His fly ball percentage is 44.7 and the Yankees could be in a really good spot. Against lefties so far, New York is first in ISO and third in OPS. When they hit, they hit for power. Rodriguez might get some strikeouts but the risk far outweighs the reward in anything but a large field GPP.

Yankee Hitters to Target

Elite Options – Gary Sanchez, Aaron Judge, Giancarlo Stanton,

Secondary Options – Aaron Hicks, Miguel Andujar, Gleyber Torres

Yankees Probable Starter – C.C. Sabathia, LHP

1.39 ERA, 0.87 WHIP and 6.40 K/9

Vs LHH – .133 average, .229 wOBA and 20.0 hard contact rate

Vs RHH – .198 average, .244 wOBA and 29.5 hard contact rate

I’m still unsure of why Boston is so bad against lefty pitching this season. Their lineup should handle even the best lefties but they sit 24th or worse in a lot of categories against southpaws. I’m also baffled by the success of Sabathia at his age. His fly ball rate is also spiked over 40 percent and he doesn’t have the strikeout ability that his opponent does. I’m hesitant to stack the Sox but also wouldn’t be surprised if Sabathia gets steamrolled.

Red Sox Hitters to Target

Elite Options – Mookie Betts, J.D. Martinez

Secondary Options – Xander Bogaerts, Hanley Ramirez

Home Run Pick – Aaron Hicks
