Nashville Predators vs. Winnipeg Jets Game 7: Highlights from Jets’ win
The Nashville Predators and the Winnipeg Jets played Game 7 of what was an all-time great series. Here is how it all went down.
Game 7 opened fast with both teams vying for the first real scoring chance. The Winnipeg Jets would get on the board first after an odd-angled from Tyler Myers shot somehow squeaked between Pekka Rinne’s left pad and the post. Rinne did not look himself tonight, as not long after the first goal, he let in another bad-angled goal to Paul Stasny and was subsequently pulled from the game.
PK Subban would take matters into his own hands late in the first, scoring a power play goal after he drew a penalty on the Jets (one which he may have slightly embellished). The exciting first period would end at 2-1 Jets.
The second period was action packed but scoreless for 18 minutes as both goaltenders were great. Nashville had several scoring chances in the final minutes but it was Mark Scheifele beat Juuse Saros to make it 3-1 Winnipeg after two.
Over ten minutes into the third period, the Jets got to go to the power play for the first time in the game. Paul Stasny took advantage of a Patrik Laine rebound to score his second of the game and the Nashville faithful were the most somber they have been in a long time. Mark Scheifele scored his second of the game on an empty net to make it a 5-1 final.
The Winnipeg Jets are going to the Western Conference Final.
Three Stars
3. Mark Scheifele
Scheifele scored seven of his 11 playoff goals in Nashville. He has been nothing short of fantastic in these playoffs and will be the Conn Smythe favorite if the Jets end up making the Stanley Cup Final. Let’s not get ahead of ourselves though. The Jets will need Scheifele to continue this level of play to beat a red-hot Vegas team.
2. Connor Hellebuyck
Hellebuyck was nothing short of incredible in Game 7. His solid play took away any chance of a Nashville comeback. He was fantastic in this series and is showing why he is a Vezina Trophy candidate.
1. Paul Stasny
The Winnipeg trade deadline addition has been great for them in these playoffs. He was easily at his best tonight. With two goals and an assist in Game 7, he was the best player on the ice tonight. Stasny is the kind of guy you need to make a long playoff run and the Jets are looking like they can do that. Stasny has been arguably the best trade deadline acquisition in recent NHL history.
