It’s nearly impossible to pull from an assistant coach’s various stops to make sense of how they might impact a specific player, but we know Borrego has been in San Antonio the majority of his career. Though the Spurs have never had a versatile player like Bridges, they’ve always done well maximizing their talent. You can bet Borrego will build through the wing, just as the Spurs have tried to do with Kawhi Leonard over the past few years. Bridges is a good start in that direction.

The sophomore is probably only a third option at best on a great offensive team, meaning he’s not the key piece in the rebuild the Hornets are likely undertaking with Borrego. However, he’s a perfect complement to a dominant scoring guard or defensive big man. His biggest skill is his ability to slither from one role to another.

If Charlotte keeps Kemba Walker, they will need more players like Bridges to slowly replace the expensive veterans they accumulated as they got more and more desperate to win under Rich Cho and Steve Clifford. You can’t fault any one move that Charlotte has made the last few seasons (aside from the Dwight Howard trade), but altogether it’s a disaster.

Giving time to a modern young guy like Bridges would represent somewhat of a reset in itself, and allow the Hornets to operate with both the present and future in mind.
