2018 NBA Mock Draft: What if Memphis wins the lottery?
Whenever I think of Bruce Brown in Luke Walton’s system (it’s a match I’ve been pretty excited about lately), I think of Andre Iguodala in that same system, and what it did to raise the ceiling of what the Warriors were capable of after they signed him.
We’ve seen that impact again in this year’s playoffs, with Iguodala inserted into the starting lineup (the “Hamptons Five” lineup) and the team’s ceiling shooting into the stratosphere. To get this out of the way before we go any further: Until someone matches explosiveness, strength, skill and intelligence in the way Iguodala does, there’s no comparison. Brown has so much to show from a defensive standpoint to match Iguodala, perhaps the league’s best wing defender.
Truly, his potential comes mostly from his offensive game, which is versatile enough that he could fit beautifully next to any number of pieces. Imagining him next to Lonzo Ball, Brandon Ingram and Kyle Kuzma in Los Angeles is exciting. Imagining him next to Paul George alongside any of the rest of those guys is even more tantalizing. He has positional advantages as a playmaker and shooter, but needs to get better at playing without the ball to truly be desirable for a team with aspirations of acquiring a superstar.
Brown can fit into a number of situations, so many different teams ought to covet him. We’ll see how he looks in the combine and workouts after an injury of his own.
