Defense/Special Teams and Kicker

The Jets are really trying to fix their defense. They brought in a top cornerback to pair with safeties Jamal Adams and Marcus Maye, who both played very well in their rookie season. The linebacker corps got some help with the addition of Avery Williamson and lineman Leonard Williams is still around to get to the quarterback. Still, the finished 31st as a unit for fantasy scoring in 2017. They’ll need to show improvements and do not need to be drafted at all.

Cario Santos could potentially have some value. There’s some interesting pieces on this offense and they could move the ball a little bit with McCown or Bridgewater under center. Even if Darnold plays late in the season, it feels like the offense isn’t going to be the best at punching the ball in for a touchdown. Santos is just a kicker to keep an eye on after the draft to see how his year starts off.

Sleeper – Quincy Enunwa – It’s hard to narrow it down because there’s a lot of Jets going at value prices in current drafts. I’ll side with Enunwa, as he should be the possession receiver in an offense that might need to pass a lot this season. He’s basically free as his ADP isn’t even within the top 60 in receivers. I think a lot of fantasy players have forgotten about him since he missed the entire season in 2017.

Bust – Sam Darnold – This isn’t a long term pick as Darnold could actually be very good for New York at some point in his career. I just don’t believe it to be this season as he will likely be on the bench for a significant chunk. If you’re just playing a re-draft league, don’t even look his way.

Overview – There’s plenty of production for New York to be had for fantasy players and it all comes at an excellent draft price right now. There’s not a lot of sizzle when you draft a player like Crowell or Enunwa, but that’s the type of depth a good fantasy football squad needs to have to win a title. Everyone gets hung up on the first two or three picks in the draft, and they are vitally important.

Through a 16-game season, you’re going to need quality players to provide usable production while they’re on the field. The Jets provide great value in drafts and the only player who might really vault up is Robby Anderson if he dodges a suspension. New York still has a ways to go to be a good real life football team but they’re a great option to build the late part of a fantasy roster.
