The Washington Capitals took a 2-0 series lead against the Tampa Bay Lightning on Sunday night with another lopsided win.

2. 23. Final. 6. 19

What if I told you that not only have the Washington Capitals advanced to their first Eastern Conference Final in the Alex Ovechkin era, but that they might actually go ahead and sweep their opponent, the Tampa Bay Lightning, in four games?

Yes, that’s right, the same Tampa Bay Lightning who finished the regular season with 54 wins, good enough for the No. 1 seed in the conference, while the Capitals finished with 49.

Crazier things have happened than the Capitals beating the Lighting 6-2 on the road, but this was pretty crazy in its own right. The recurring joke that this year might actually be the Capitals’ year could get old very fast.

With the win, Washington has now improved its road win record to 7-1 in this year’s playoffs, matching a franchise record. That’s bad news for Tampa Bay.

Three Stars

3. Evgeny Kuznetsov: Kuznetsov had two apple to go with his goal, and what a beautiful goal it was. Right before time expired in the second period, on a power play, Kuznetsov got lucky with a fortuitous bounce as he snuck one past Lighting netminder Andrei Vasilevskiy.

2. Lars Eller: Eller’s role has increased with Nicklas Backstrom out, and the usual third-line center has delivered. Eller matched his teammate Kuznetsov on the stat sheet, with a goal and two assists.

1. Alex Ovechkin: Six different Capitals scored on Sunday night, and, like Ovechkin, Tom Wilson also added an assist. But it’s hard to take your eyes off Ovechkin this postseason as he continues to make the narrative that he can’t get the job done in the postseason downright laughable.
