Jacob deGrom, New York Mets
NEW YORK, NY – MAY 02: Jacob deGrom #48 of the New York Mets walks off the field after the fourth inning against the Atlanta Braves on May 2, 2018 at Citi Field in the Flushing neighborhood of the Queens borough of New York City. (Photo by Elsa/Getty Images) /

Mets at Phillies

Mets Probable Starter – Jacob deGrom, RHP

1.87 ERA, 0.99 WHIP and 11.22 K/9

Vs LHH -.192 average, .245 wOBA and 23.4 hard contact rate

Vs RHH – .214 average, .247 wOBA and 25.0 hard contact rate

I really want to play deGrom because the Phillies strikeout at the highest percentage against righties in baseball. In a GPP, deGrom is totally in play for the ceiling. I won’t go there in cash because he’s coming of an injury to his throwing elbow. The reports after the injury were all over the board about the severity which makes it even scarier. There is far too much risk there for my liking since he’s full price. This side of the game is an easy fade in my view.

Phillies Hitters to Target

Elite Options – None

Secondary Options – Rhys Hoskins

Phillies Probable Starter – Zach Eflin, RHP

0.71 ERA, 0.79 WHIP and 9.24 K/9

Vs LHH – .125 average, .235 wOBA and 44.0 hard contact rate

Vs RHH – .179 average, .206 wOBA and 22.7 hard contact rate

  • Note – This analysis is a repeat from Saturday since Eflin was scheduled to pitch and did not due to a rain out.

I’m not letting two really dominant starts derail my thinking of Eflin not being a good major leaguer. He’s still 24 years old and maybe he’s taken a step forward but he’s not nearly this good. Eflin has a fly ball rate of over 40 percent which is going to come back and bite him at some point. Last year, Eflin didn’t see major splits depending on the handedness of the batter and the Mets are a very sneaky stack for GPPs. In a limited sample size of 17 batters faced, Eflin has given up a 75 percent fly ball rate to lefties to go along with a 44.0 hard contact rate. They might not be a cash game play just in case Eflin still has another good start up his sleeve.

Mets Hitters to Target

Elite Options – Michael Conforto, Jay Bruce, Asdrubal Cabrera

Secondary Options – Yoenis Cespedes, Adrian Gonzalez, Brandon Nimmo

Home Run Pick – Michael Conforto

Rangers at Astros

Rangers Probable Starter – Matt Moore, LHP

7.71 ERA, 1.91 WHIP and 5.91 K/9

Vs LHH – .417 average, .510 wOBA and 65.0 hard contact rate

Vs RHH – .326 average, .390 wOBA and 47.3 hard contact rate

If you’re playing Matt Moore today, you should rally consider giving your entry fees to charity so it does some good because he’s going to get rocked by this Astros lineup. Every Astros bat is viable, even players like Derek Fisher and Evan Gattis. The stars of the show are Jose Altuve and Carlos Correa, but Alex Bregman is such a great price on FanDuel. I may wind up playing two third baseman today since there’s a bunch of plays that I love at that spot. It’s really a tough call if I want to play the Red Sox hitters more or the Astros.

Astros Hitters to Target

Elite Options – Jose Altuve, Carlos Correa, Alex Bregman

Secondary Options – George Springer, Evan Gattis, Josh Reddick, Derek Fisher, Brian McCann

Astros Probable Starter – Dallas Keuchel, LHP

3.53 ERA, 1.18 WHIP and 6.53 K/9

Vs LHH – .257 average, .314 wOBA and 30.8 hard contact rate

Vs RHH – .228 average, .299 wOBA and 27.6 hard contact rate

He’s a very solid major league pitcher and is likely just a step down from excellent, but I won’t be playing the Astros fifth starter today. Yes, Keuchel is the fifth best pitcher in his own rotation which tells you just how incredible the starting five for Houston is. Even though Texas strikes out like nobody’s business, I’m not sure Keuchel can take advantage of it. There’s not a ton of upside to this spot as Keuchel’s K/9 is his lowest since 2012. Maybe he didn’t get the memo about how the rest of the rotation is “cheating”, according to Indians pitcher Trevor Bauer.

Rangers Hitters to Target

Secondary Options – Adrian Beltre, Joey Gallo, Nomar Mazara(elite option if you buy into BvP data)

Home Run Pick – Jose Altuve
