Alex Burrows

While Brad Marchand will lick you, Alex Burrows will bite you.

Alex Burrows is so dislikable that Canadians don’t like him. And Canadians like everyone.

When the Vancouver Canucks made the Stanley Cup Finals in 2011. They had a chance to snap the Canadian Cup Drought. For those that don’t know, a Canadian team has not won the Stanley Cup since 1993. If you’re a fan of a Canadian hockey team, you root for your team. If your team is eliminated from the playoffs, you root for the remaining Canadian team(s).

There are some gray areas depending on the team you like and the teams remaining. But for the most part, you’re rooting for the Canadian team. Because Canada.

Not this 2011 Canucks team.

No one, not even Canadian hockey fans, liked this team. They liked the Sedins. Everyone likes the Sedins. They liked Roberto Luongo. Everyone likes hockey’s best tweeter. But no one liked Burrows and Max Lapierre. And they disliked for those two overshadowed the love they had for the Sedins and Luongo.

Most of Canada’s disdain was aimed at Burrows. He was the guy scoring 20-goals (thanks, Sedins) while being an agitator.

As he’s gotten older, he’s become less skilled and more agitating. He was suspended this season for kneeing Taylor Hall in the head while the two were on the ground. MMA fans know that’s against the unified rules. Maybe Burrows thought he was in Japan.

At this point in his career, I’m not sure anyone likes Burrows. If he’s on your team, he’s not productive enough to cheer for. If anything, he’s taking a roster spot from someone who won’t take bad penalties or injure opponents.
