Sidney Crosby

There used to be a debate amongst hardcore NHL fans over who should be the face of the league: Sidney Crosby or Alexander Ovechkin?

The league wanted Crosby. He was the more talented player and anointed the next Wayne Gretzky before he played his first NHL game. Fans and players wanted Ovechkin. He played with passion and excitement. They didn’t like that Crosby was pushed on them like the NHL’s Roman Reigns and then complained every time he was touched.

In the end, Crosby won. Because, well, Crosby won. He collected rings while Ovechkin failed to make it out of the second round year after year.

That hasn’t changed the perception of Crosby amongst most hardcore. He’s still Sid The Kid. Or as some unfunny soul on Twitter put it, Sid The Crybaby. Much like James Harden, no one likes superstars who complain about everything. Crosby is still the best player in the league. Sorry, Connor. He doesn’t need to complain about every call that doesn’t go his way. Especially when his team has won back-to-back Stanley Cups.

We want people who complain to be losers who don’t get a fair opportunity or don’t have enough help around them. We don’t want our complainers to be the best player of his generation.

Penguins fans love Crosby. They should. If he was on your team, you’d love him to. I want the best player in the world on my team. I don’t care how much he complains. I could not see his complaints because the bill of my “2018 Stanley Cup Champions” hat would be obstructing my view.
