The 2017-18 Premier League season is over. Manchester City are champions, but who made the team of the year?

Manchester City ran away with the Premier League this year, setting new records for points, goals, wins and goal difference. Pep Guardiola’s side also played some of the most thrilling attacking soccer the English top flight has ever seen. They were, in almost every meaningful way, the team of the season.

However, as impressive as they’ve been, there’s nothing particularly exciting about a team of the season dominated by players from the same club. To mix things up, FanSided’s soccer staff have picked their own Premier League teams of the season, with only one player allowed per club. Here are the teams:

David de Gea

Hector Bellerin – Jamaal Lascelles – James Tarkowski – Nathan Ake

Kevin De Bruyne – N’Golo Kante – Pascal Gross

Mohamed Salah – Harry Kane – Wilfried Zaha

Premier League top goalscorer Mohamed Salah is the only player to appear in all eight teams, while Harry Kane, David De Gea and Kevin De Bruyne make it into seven each. Burnley’s standout center-back, James Tarkowski, got selected in six teams, while Wilfried Zaha, who played such a crucial role in saving Cystal Palace from the drop, made it into five starting XIs. The composite team, made up of the players selected by the greatest number of our writers, is as follows:

David de Gea

Alfie Mawson – Harry Maguire – James Tarkowski – Jamaal Lascelles

Mesut Ozil – Kevin De Bruyne – Pascal Gross

Mohamed Salah – Harry Kane – Wilfried Zaha

That’s a lot of center-backs. And a lot of attacking midfielders. De Bruyne as a holding midfielder? Ozil as a shuttler alongside him? Mawson and Lascelles charging up the wing on the overlap? That sounds like a recipe for disaster, but hey, they all had impressive seasons. Why not celebrate them?
