1. Teuvo Teravainen

Another surprise move for the Carolina Hurricanes would be to trade Teuvo Teravainen. He would score a major return for the organization and help them fill multiple holes. It seemed like a steal when the Hurricanes acquired Teravainen and Stu Bickell from the Chicago Blackhawks for a second and third-round pick. For the most part, it was. Bickell was included to help Chicago dump cap and Teravainen was the main piece from the trade. He has played two full NHL seasons and has improved his offense both times. He finished this season with 64 points, good enough for second on the team. Even though the offense is a major weakness for the Carolina Hurricanes if everyone is truly available Teravainen would be one of the biggest targets for other teams.

There will be a lot of teams calling Carolina about Teravainen. One of the first in line should be Jason Botterill, general manager of the Buffalo Sabres. It is time for the Sabres to put it all together and get moving up the standings. Assuming Rasmus Dahlin is the first overall pick this year the Sabres blue line will look much better. They are set at center with Jack Eichel, Casey Mittelstadt and Ryan O’ Reilly. They need help on the wings.

Next: Should the Carolina Hurricanes blow it up?

After trading Evander Kane, the only winger that scored consistently was Sam Reinhart. Kyle Okposo showed flashes of his old self but they need more. Teravainen would easily slot into the top six and be a huge boost. It won’t be a cheap trade; the Sabres will have to give up a lot, but a package built around a prospect like Justin Bailey, Alex Nylander or Nick Baptiste might be enough to get it done.
