MLB Trade Rumors: Who will the Yankees move before the deadline?
4. Aaron Hicks
The idea that the Yankees might deal an everyday starter might surprise a lot of fans. The reality is that Hicks is only hitting .215 at the moment. That isn’t good enough for a 28-year-old center fielder who should be squarely in his prime.
Cashman could easily decide that center field is a spot the Yankees must upgrade before October baseball arrives. That wouldn’t be a cheap acquisition for the team, but they could look to swing a deal for a player in the last year of his contract with another club.
If the Yankees move for a new center fielder, dealing Hicks would make a lot of sense. He wouldn’t provide the team a ton of value as a reserve outfielder. That could see him move in exchange for a new center fielder or in an entirely different transaction.
In the end, Hicks is the one player who can alleviate the team’s need to find a replacement for him. If he can pick up his play, then Cashman may elect to stay put at the deadline. If he continues to struggle at the plate, the Yankees will certainly look to find an upgrade.
