It’s no secret that the New York Yankees are red-hot as a team at the moment. These five players are the main reasons why.

Aaron Boone has plenty of reason to smile these days. The Yankees sit atop the AL East in a tie with the Boston Red Sox for the best record in baseball. Simply put, Boone has the Yankees hitting on all cylinders.

Even though it’s a team game, it’s easy to see what players are really driving the Yankees at the current point in time. As you might expect, quite a few Yankees are enjoying hot streaks at the moment. You can’t win as many games as New York has lately without contributions from a lot of players.

We start by taking a look at a veteran who’s really starting to improve his stats.

5. Brett Gardner

The Yankees left fielder started the season in a horrible slump. His current .227 batting average may not seem very impressive, but it’s a big improvement over where it stood just a few weeks ago.

Garner has really hit the baseball well over the last week. He’s gone 8 for his last 23 at the plate including a massive triple against Oakland. He still faces a long way to go if he wants to finish the year with solid numbers, but at least he’s showing signs of life with the bat in his hands.

If Gardner can keep his recent hot streak going, he’s only going to help the power hitters behind him drive in even more runs. That’s a scary thought for opposing pitchers.
