Call of Duty is entering into the world of battle royale with the upcoming release of Black Ops 4 in October. Given the buzz already surrounding this game, we should all be excited.

It was only a matter of time before Call of Duty ventured into the world of battle royale.

On Thursday afternoon, the CoD: Black Ops 4 reveal we’ve all been waiting for clarified exactly how it was going to go down.

“Blackout” will be Call of Duty‘s answer to the growing popularity of Fortnite: Battle Royale and PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds. They have yet to tell us everything, but everything they have revealed so far sounds great.

"This is BLACKOUT! This is doing battle royale the Black Ops way. A survival game with the best, most advanced mechanics in the world. BLACKOUT is your favorite weapons, your favorite characters, your favorite maps and land, sea and air vehicles."

SOLD! From the sounds of it, BLACKOUT (which we are now capitalizing for all future use) is going to combine everything we love about previous Black Ops games, all worked into one giant, combined map.

If you are a little skeptical, given their recent history (Call of Duty‘s last two releases) have no fear. The brand is dropping everything “extra” from CoD: Infinite Warfare (double jumps, wall running) and going forward in time from CoD: WWII to the space in-between that we all grew up on. If you aren’t convinced, here’s a clip of gameplay that is sure to hype anyone with eyes and a beating heart:

Treyarch and Activision are going all out for CoD: Black Ops 4, which is needed after the reception toward the last two games. As far as we can tell, they are doing this right. They’ve also scrapped the single player campaign mode that no one ever plays and gone all-in on multiplayer games. You can find all of this and more information on their Twitter page.

In a feature by US Gamer, game producer Miles Leslie went in to a few more details about the characters and map development:

"We’re in a unique position where we can draw on our history across all of Black Ops. You loved Reznov, now you can play as him. You love the Zombies characters, you can play as them. All the vehicles and weapons from past games. Sprinkling in landmarks for different games, so you can say, ‘Let’s go to the Nuketown sign or Nuketown house.’ Not saying we’re putting empty maps in Blackout, because it’s designed for the experience, but you’ll be able to pick up on those landmarks in some really cool ways. This really ties into a different experience for a battle royale game."

You have to love this move. Now that we’re over a year into battle royale games and everyone in the genre is refining their respective platforms, Treyarch and Activision have everything they need to make BLACKOUT successful. From the sounds of it, they are taking everything we like and giving us the ultimate battle royale game.
