5 reasons the Cubs shouldn’t trade for Manny Machado
2. Cubs have a top-tier offense already
Currently, the Cubs have scored the third most runs in the National League, just behind the over performing Braves and Pirates. If both of these teams fade the Cubs would then have the best offense in the National League. Not to mention, they are only 16 runs back of the Braves and have played two less games.
They’re also doing all of this will an ice cold Anthony Rizzo. Once he wakes up, the Cubs offense will become even more potent than it already is. Rizzo, a lifetime .265 hitter, is currently hitting under .200 with a meager OPS of .658. However, things are looking up as of late as he has an OPS of .984 in his last seven games. Once Rizzo breaks out, the Cubs offense will be more formidable than ever. With former MVP Kris Bryant, and a breakout season from Javier Baez, the Cubs will be ready to roll.
So, while Machado adds offense, he would truly be unnecessary. For a team that would have slim chances of resigning him and would have to give up a lot, is that luxury worth getting?
