The Vegas Golden Knights are six wins away from hoisting the Stanley Cup, and Jeremy Roenick doesn’t see any quit in this Cinderella story.

If the Vegas Golden Knights win the Stanley Cup this season, it goes into the pantheon of greatest achievements in modern sports history. Vegas, an NHL expansion team, rolled through the regular season to the tune of 109 points, winning the Pacific Division before crushing the Los Angeles Kings and San Jose Sharks in the playoffs.

Now, the Golden Knights lead the Winnipeg Jets two games to one in the Western Conference Finals. With each passing victory, Vegas inches closer to the impossible dream, and at this juncture, it’s tough not to buy in.

NBC’s Jeremy Roenick, a former NHL star who played in nine All-Star Games and two Olympic Games, doesn’t see any reason to pump the brakes. Speaking to FanSided’s Mark Carman, Roenick talked about what has become the best story in sports.

“I thought about putting $100 down on this team back in September, and I thought we should just take a lighter and burn $100,” Roenick said. “That’s what I thought. Then in February, I said this team has the potential of winning the Stanley Cup. Everybody laughed at me in February. I laughed at myself in September, people laughed at me in February, and now they are two games away from the Stanley Cup Final. Everybody is waiting for this team to peak, but they refuse to peak. It’s incredible.”

All season, the Golden Knights have relied on a team game backstopped by Marc-Andre Fleury, who is seeking his fourth Stanley Cup and second as the starter. He’s done nothing but help his cause to this point, notching all 10 playoff wins for Vegas while sporting an absurd .945 save percentage and 1.70 goals against average.
