The Boston Celtics will seek to take a commanding 3-0 series lead against the Cleveland Cavaliers in Game 3 of the Eastern Conference Finals on Saturday.

After holding serve at home, the Celtics now head to Cleveland for Game 3 of the 2018 Eastern Conference Finals, where they’ll seek to snuff out the Cavaliers’ comeback hopes by opening up a commanding 3-0 series lead.

LeBron James finished with 42 points, 12 assists and 10 rebounds in Game 2, but his teammates not named Kevin Love and Kyle Korver were nowhere to be found Tuesday. J.R. Smith and George Hill combined for three points on 1-of-11 shooting, as Boston erased a seven-point halftime deficit to walk out with a decisive 107-94 come-from-behind victory.

“We have to ramp it up,” Smith told reporters Thursday. “We’re playing too slow. We’re making ‘Bron play hero ball, which is tough to do, especially in the Eastern Conference Finals. We got to help him. With that said, we have to give him an opportunity to make him feel confident to give us the ball so we can make the right plays.”

Conventional wisdom suggests role players tend to perform better at home, so Game 3 will be now-or-never time for Smith, Hill, Jeff Green and Co. If Cleveland can’t get more out of its supporting cast, no amount of James heroics may be enough to overcome the Celtics’ well-balanced output.

Boston will have its own demons to overcome as it heads to Quicken Loans Arena on Saturday. While the C’s are now 9-0 at home in the playoffs, they’re only 1-4 on the road, with the lone win coming in overtime against the Philadelphia 76ers in Game 3 of their second-round series. James and the Cavs will be throwing their last-ditch haymakers at Boston in Game 3, and how the Celtics’ young players respond—most notably Jayson Tatum, Jaylen Brown and Terry Rozier—will go a long way toward determining how much longer this series goes.
