Villarreal are guaranteed a spot in the Europa League next season regardless of this result against Real Madrid. They are level on points with sixth place Real Betis with 60 points apiece. So, at the very least, they have a position battle to play for on the last match. Betis play 17th place Leganes on the final day, so Villarreal have an uphill battle to keep their place. In their favor, however, is their opponents Champions League final just a week later. Madrid will obviously have an eye on that game, so they could be easier to catch on a meaningless La Liga match.
Real Madrid will end their league season in either second or third place, depending on a few results over the weekend. They are three points behind Atletico Madrid but have a superior goal difference, so a win and a Atletico loss will see them finish second behind Barcelona. While their league season may not have been up to their high expectations, the season will be a positive one with yet another Champions League medal. Therefore, Madrid might be playing their reserves on Saturday.
