Napoli host Crotone on Sunday, May 20 at the Stadio San Paolo on the final day of the season. Here’s what you need to know before tuning in.

It’s come down to the final matchday of the season for Crotone. The Calabria-based club are in a heated battle with four other clubs to avoid relegation to Serie B. While they’re not likely to get any favors, they do place second-place Napoli, who have nothing to play for after Juventus clinched the title last Sunday.

While Hellas Verona and Benevento have already been relegated, just above them is the quintet of Chievo and Udinese (37 points), Cagliari (36), and Spal and Crotone (both at 35). Should teams be tied on points after Sunday’s games, a series of tiebreakers will be used to determine who drops.

The first tiebreaker is head-to-head record, followed by goal difference in the head-to-head series, overall goal difference and then the number of goals scored overall. As a result, there are 243 possible outcomes. Only two of them would see Chievo go down. There are seven scenarios that would plunge Udinese into the second division, 15 for Cagliari, 81 for Spal and 138 for Crotone.

While the odds are not in favor of Walter Zenga’s men, Napoli are playing for pride after an amazing season that saw them win zero trophies but at the same time put together some of the most entertaining soccer in Europe.

For the Partenopei, this could be the last time this starting lineup plays under coach Maurizio Sarri. After failing to win the title this spring, there are several players, including stars such as midfielder Jorginho, could be gone during the summer transfer window. Even Sarri, beloved by the fans, could be gone this summer.

Napoli defeated Crotone 1-0 when the sides met in December on matchday 19.
