Alvin Kamara ready to be even better in 2018 for Saints

The New Orleans Saints are looking to get to the Super Bowl, and more touches for Alvin Kamara might be the way to get there.

After carrying the ball 120 times as a rookie, Alvin Kamara is ready for an increased work load. And, as it turns out, he better be. After Mark Ingram was suspended for four games after violating the NFL’s performance enhancing drug policy, Kamara is in line to be the bellcow for a team with championship dreams.

Kamara, 22, had 728 rushing yards on 6.1 yards per carry, but perhaps was even more impressive catching the ball with 81 receptions and 826 yards. All told, the Offensive Rookie of the Year went for 1,554 yards from scrimmage with 13 touchdowns, giving New Orleans one of the premier weapons in the league.

Entering his second season, Kamara says he’s ready to take on more work. One would imagine that head coach Sean Payton will try to do the impossible balancing act of both keeping Kamara fresh and getting him the ball in all situations, helping New Orleans fend off the Carolina Panthers and Atlanta Falcons in the brutal NFC South.

With Drew Brees in the twilight of his career, the Saints have to play with a win-now mentality. New Orleans has one of the better rosters in the league, something that was buttressed by the additions of Kurt Coleman and first-round choice Marcus Davenport, who should pair with Cameron Jordan to provide a nightmarish combo off the edge.

If Kamara can indeed be more of a threat in 2018 than he was as a rookie out of the University of Tennessee, the Saints might prove to be the best offense in the NFL.
