2. Sign a veteran free agent

It’s important for a team to have veteran players who have experience they can rely on. The Avalanche are very young team that is still trying to find its footing. They should sign a veteran free agent to help this young team out.

It does not have to be a big free agent, though that may be nice. If there’s a way for them to do it, it could be someone like John Tavares, who is a unrestricted free agent with nearly 10 years of experience.

Even though he is only 27 years old, he is one of the best forwards on the market. Tavares would pair well with Nathan Mackinnon and Gabriel Landeskog.

The Avalanche have the salary cap space to spend in free agency. It’s time for this team to take the next step.

If they want to make a splash they could also look into a big free agent like Rick Nash. Nash would help the Avalanche right away.

Consider a reunion with Paul Statsny, who was always good for the Avalanche .

The  Avalanche tend to shy away from signing major free agents. It might be time to consider changing their strategy.
