The mayor and assistant police chief in Milwaukee are asking for public support ahead of a video being released showing officers arresting Bucks rookie Sterling Brown.
The mayor of Milwaukee and its police department are pleading for support from the public ahead of the scheduled release of the video footage of the arrest of Milwaukee Bucks guard Sterling Brown.
Speaking in an apologetic tone, Mayor Tom Barrett held a press conference on Tuesday pleading with the public for support after the video of Brown’s arrest is released to the public, which, according to the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel and Deadspin, is scheduled to be released sometime before the end of the week.
Barrett told the media that, after viewing the video of the Jan. 26 incident, he had deep concerns with what transpired on that evening. He also added that the city needed support following the release of the video, giving the fact that the Milwaukee Police Department has had issues with excessive force.
Also calling for community support was the police department itself, with Assistant Police Chief Michael Brunson telling a church congregation that the police department was going to need all the support it could get as soon as the video is released.
“There’s going to be a video that is going to come out soon, in the next couple of weeks, involving the department,” he told the congregation, adding; “And I’m going, to be honest with you: We’re going to need your support during the challenges.”

On Jan. 26, Brown was arrested for resisting arrest after Milwaukee PD reportedly saw him parked across a couple of handicap spots. According to police reports, Brown “threateningly” approached the officers as they were writing him a ticket. According to Deadspin, Brown was not the least bit provocative in his interactions with the police. The incident resulted in police using a taser on Brown and arresting him for resisting arrest. A few days later, the charges were dropped and an internal investigation was launched into the conduct of the arrest. Brown has reportedly filed a lawsuit against the police department.
