Houston Texans: What can we really expect from Deshaun Watson?

During the 2017 NFL Draft, the Houston Texans traded up to select Deshaun Watson from Clemson. His coach at Clemson, Dabo Swinney, said that passing up on Watson would be like passing up on Michael Jordan, and his play once inserted into the starting lineup was beginning to prove Dabo right.

With Watson under center, the Texans offense started to roll, but it came to a screeching halt when he tore up his knee. That injury occurred in early November, in a non-contact play in practice, and he had successful surgery in the following days. An ACL injury usually takes 12 months to recover from, so it is anybody’s guess as to whether or not he will be ready for Week 1.

Even if he does make a miraculous return, we still do not know what we can expect from Watson. Robert Griffin III had an amazing rookie season as well, but after blowing out his knee the following year, he was never the same. A lot of what Watson does relies on his legs, so he is someone to keep an eye on as he recovers.

The Texans have the talent on defense to win the AFC South, and DeAndre Hopkins is one of the best wide receivers in all of football. Watson has the ability to be an elite quarterback in this league, but at least for one offseason, he is the biggest question mark this organization has.
