Miami Dolphins: Did the team lose too much star power this offseason?

The Miami Dolphins surprised a lot of people in 2016, as they made it to the playoffs despite the fact they lost Ryan Tannehill towards the end of the season. While the team was a one-and-done in the playoffs, they showed they have the talent to be a Wild Card team in the NFL, and first-year head coach Adam Gase was impressive.

The following summer, disaster struck, as Tannehill blew out his knee again. That forced the organization to go out and sign someone from the broadcast booth, as they inked Jay Cutler to enough money that  he put his broadcasting career on hold for one more year.

Well, you can imagine what that meant for the organization, as the Dolphins struggled all season, and found themselves on the outside looking in at the playoffs. This offseason, they have spent most of their time getting rid of their high-priced veterans, so it is anybody’s guess how good this team will be in 2018.

First, they traded star wide receiver Jarvis Landry away to the Cleveland Browns, who quickly signed him for a bunch of money. Then, they released the highly-paid Ndamukong Suh, leaving a gaping hole in the middle of their defensive line.

In the 2018 NFL Draft, the team did pick up an elite player in the first round, inking Minkah Fitzpatrick from Alabama. He has enough talent to really bolster the Dolphins secondary, but they may have lost too much talent overall this offseason to be a competitive team in the AFC this season.
