Cleveland Browns: Is Baker Mayfield Johnny Manziel 2.0?

Heading into the 2018 NFL Draft, all eyes were on the Cleveland Browns. I mean, how could they not be, as the perennial cellar-dweller had two of the top four picks in the draft, including the first overall selection.

In 2017, the Browns also had the first overall pick, which they used on the defensive side of the ball by drafting Myles Garrett out of Texas A&M. With the top pick in 2018, they decided to bolster the other side of the ball, selecting a player who they hope will be their franchise quarterback for the next 15 seasons.

Baker Mayfield has accomplished so much already in his football life, as he walked-on twice in college, and finished his career by winning the Heisman Trophy. The worry for Browns fans, even if they do not admit it, is that Mayfield may turn out like the last quarterback they selected in the first round, Johnny Manziel.

To compare Mayfield to Manziel is just lazy journalism, I know that, but does the Browns fan base know that. Nobody could fault them for being scared with the pick, as Mayfield is a very eccentric player, who has had his issues off the field during his time at Oklahoma. However, he is a solid person, and is a guy that people want to follow.

Mayfield may have his faults, but you have to like the move by the Browns to swing for the fences with this pick. The bottom line is he is very productive, does not turn the ball over, and anybody who has ever played for him will tell you they would run through a wall for him.
