Dallas Cowboys: With Ezekiel Elliott back, will Dallas reclaim NFC East?

During the 2016 NFL season, the Dallas Cowboys were the class of the NFC. During the preseason, long-time starting quarterback Tony Romo broke his back, and it cleared the way for rookie Dak Prescott to take over under center for the team.

Prescott played incredibly as a rookie, and really exceeded any expectation the team could have had for a guy picked so low in the draft. The team’s first round pick that same year, Ezekiel Elliott, had a bit higher expectations on him, as the organization saw him as the second coming of Emmitt Smith.

Well, Elliott definitely lived up to those expectations, rushing for over 1,600 yards, and being named a First Team All-Pro player. His production helped the Cowboys to the best record in the NFC, and the No. 1 overall seed in the playoffs, though the team lost in the Divisional Round at home to the Green Bay Packers.

Heading into last season, a six-game suspension loomed over him, as he appealed it, thinking he would not miss any time. Well, he missed time late in the season, which killed the Cowboys playoff hopes, and now they head into the 2018 season after seeing their hated rivals, the Philadelphia Eagles, not only win the NFC East, but their first Super Bowl.

The big question for Dallas is whether they are still the best team in the division with Elliott back behind Prescott for a full 16-game season. The team will be without Dez Bryant this season, as he was released this offseason, so it will be interesting to see how they produce in the passing game, but one thing is for sure, Elliott is going to eat in 2018.
