Fortnite Friday is a weekly review of what is happening in the world of Fortnite. We cover the battle pass challenges, new game modes and any update information you need to know.

Fortnite Friday is a new weekly column covering everything happening around the popular 100-person multi-player showdown game, Fortnite Battle Royale. Every Friday, we’ll provide you with a cheat sheet for the weekly battle pass challenges, a “spark notes” version of the updates, new game modes, as well as some highlights from the week’s game play.

This week, we look at the new (and already infamous) jet packs, the return of the “solid gold” LTM, the week’s battle pass challenges and a potential (leaked?) preview of the storm tracker that has been popping up in some players’ games.

Battle pass challenges: Week 4

1. Deal damage with assault rifles to opponents (0/1000) – This would qualify as your “easy” challenge this week, as the rest of them are pretty difficult. Chances are you will achieve this without actively trying (unless you are a terrible shot).

2. Search chests in Wailing Woods (0/7) – A slight trip North from last week’s “search chests in Lonely Lodge.” This is a little tougher than last week as the chests are a bit more sporadic. Chip away or pick an outside chest near the edge of the forest, even if you have to land there seven times to complete the challenge.

3. Search Seven ammo boxes in a single match (0/7) – This challenge shouldn’t be that difficult as there are ammo boxes scattered everywhere. The trick is just to not get eliminated in the first minute of game play. If you are looking for a spot to clear the challenge in one shot, the busted up village to the Southeast of Junk Junction has a bunch of ammo boxes and is usually pretty quiet.

4. Visit the center of different storm circles in a single match (0/3) – This one might be difficult. The first two storm centers should be relatively easy, but by the third, you risk running in to a handful of others trying to do the same. Either choose to go for the middle immediately, or try to wait out the other players.

This challenge may also be easy in duo or squad mode as opposed to solo. Worst case, you can wait until the end of the week once everyone else has completed the challenge. If you want a more detailed strategy for this, look here.

5. Search between a bench, ice cream truck and helicopter (0/1) – You aren’t even going to try to look for this one. Lazy. Here it is:

6. Trap Elimination (0/1) – This is tricky now that traps have been nerfed, but I still think your best bet is setting a trap at Tilted Towers at the beginning of a game. It’s hard to find one and get set up, but if you do, people will run through them continuously.

If you can, get a few shots off and damage the player before ducking back into a room/corner/wherever so when he hits your trap, he is already low on health.

7. Eliminate opponents in Snobby Shores (0/3) – Not very difficult. Pick a house, find a weapon and head next door for some action.

Limited time game modes

Solid Gold LTM – If you are somewhat new to Fortnite, you may not have been around for Solid Gold v.1. Have no fear, the people at Epic brought this one back for us. The Solid Gold game mode features only legendary gold weapons.

While you will definitely be excited with your loadout, keep in mind that everyone else is stacked as well. You stand just about as much a chance as you did in the regular mode. Still though, it is fun to have a line of legendary weapons. It’s also even more ridiculously frustrating when you get a bush.

Close Encounters LTM – Released today (May 25) is a Limited time mode that is all about in-your-face action. “Close Encounters” is nothing but various shotguns and jet packs. Get ready for chaos and hope that your aim is decent, because there is nothing to bail you out in a battle this time.

E3 2018: Fortnite Pro-Am

If the Ninja Vegas challenge was our appetizer as to what is next for Fortnite, the Fortnite pro-am tournament planned for E3 2018 is the main course.

Watch the best and most famous Fortnite players duo with celebrities in a tournament with millions of dollars on the line. If I were a betting man, I’d place a nice wager on Gotaga and Demetrious “Mighty Mouse” Johnson, as Johnson is a seasoned gamer that could probably hold his own with the professionals. Quick note to Myth: Don’t expect Paul George to make any big shots at the end of a game.

Update v4.2 patch notes

Jet packs – Jet packs have been teased for a while now, and Epic has finally added them into the game. The jet packs have received mixed reviews, with some saying they are fun, but most saying they grant too much of an advantage to anyone using them. Thankfully, they are a limited time item, so you can asterisk any wins against you if your opponent was using the jet pack.

Storm Trackers coming? – Some gamers have reported an interesting new feature that was not officially released but is clearly being teased by Epic Games. We aren’t seeing these regularly, but they would be a nice full-time addition to the game.

Elimination of the week

This week’s EOTW comes from “Keeoh.” Back to back rocket ride finishes for the EOTW, but it’s the real life back flip on his twitch stream that is the icing on the cake for this kid.
