Mattia Caldara (Atalanta)

Here’s another Juventus player on loan to Atalanta that could be wearing the white-and-black stripes next season. The 24-year-old Caldara was signed by Juventus in January 2017 to a four-year contract from Serie B side Cesena. He was loaned out to Atalanta last year, a deal that expires at the end of this June.

Caldara, formerly a member of Italy’s Under-21 side, is a center-back that some have already compared to former defensive greats of Italy’s past like Gaetano Scirea and Alessandro Nesta. Playing him alongside veterans Giorgio Chiellini and Andrea Barzagli would make the Juventus defense nearly impenetrable. His experience in the league and Europa League has also allowed Caldara to play in some big matches over the past season.

A great reader of the ball and able to get the backline out of dangerous situations, Caldara is no longer just a prospect. He’s a player who’s earned the right to play for a big club.
